Hooe Parish Council Press Release – 31st October 2024

Hooe Parish Council and Hooe FC Part Ways: A New Chapter for Local Sports Provision

Following an extensive review of the usage of Hooe recreation ground, and implementation of wide-ranging measures to help improve use of the facilities, Hooe FC have decided to end the football club’s use of the grounds for regular fixtures. This decision follows a period of reflection on the best approaches to support local sports while addressing concerns around parking capacity, traffic management, and the wider needs of the Hooe community.

In August, HPC began an in-depth review of sporting provisions at the recreation ground, considering various factors, including maintenance costs, parking, traffic management, hiring conditions, and increased grounds use. Following these discussions, HPC introduced single use hire agreements for regular clubs, including Hooe FC and Sidley FC. These agreements aim to offer greater flexibility, allowing HPC to manage the grounds effectively, address legal and logistical considerations, and make adjustments as community needs evolve.

In September, HPC worked closely with both clubs to implement the necessary adjustments, particularly to protect the grounds’ condition, improve parking, and reduce congestion. However, despite the various initiatives, Hooe FC informed HPC yesterday of their decision to no longer use the recreation ground for future fixtures. They thanked HPC for nearly a decade of partnership and expressed their best wishes for the future.

Over the years, Hooe FC has worked tirelessly to build a vibrant youth programme, now encompassing around 100 children from all backgrounds. Their dedication to making football accessible to boys and girls, including those facing financial challenges, reflects their values and commitment to youth development. HPC recognises the club’s commendable efforts in establishing these teams and has supported them through significant investment in the grounds and facilities. However, the increased operational demands have led Hooe FC to conclude that the current requirements are no longer compatible with the requirements of the club, and the level of administrative work involved falls outside the typical responsibilities of a football coach.

HPC remains dedicated to ensuring that the recreation ground is available for a variety of users year-round, including local residents and visitors. As a small village parish with limited resources, balancing the needs of organised sport and broader community use is essential.

Hooe Parish Council extends its warmest wishes to Hooe FC and all its young players, wishing them success in their future leagues and ongoing community impact.
